Yes. Under Texas’s Judicial Campaign Fairness Act, judicial candidates must abide by contribution limits based on the judicial district’s population. ethics.state.tx.us+2ethics.state.tx.us+2
You can’t exceed those limits for any single election, and both monetary and in-kind contributions count toward that total.

Traditional (for-profit) corporations generally cannot make contributions to judicial campaigns. However, law firms or certain legal entities (e.g. PLLCs, PCs, partnerships) may be allowed under specific rules—with their own limits. Texas Bar+4ethics.state.tx.us+4ethics.state.tx.us+4

In some cases, yes. Texas law has been updated such that a non-dependent spouse’s contribution may not count toward your limit—but check local rules and disclosure requirements.

You’ll generally need to provide your full name, address, employer, and occupation for disclosure purposes. Some campaigns also request email, phone, and spouse/parent law firm affiliation where required.

No. Texas law requires disclosure of donors. Contributions made in someone else’s name (i.e. “straw donors”) are prohibited unless disclosed properly. Your name, address, time of contribution, and amount will typically be mandatory. Texas Statutes+2ethics.state.tx.us+2

Judicial candidates may only accept contributions during the legally defined “fundraising period” established by Texas Election Code under the Judicial Campaign Fairness Act. ethics.state.tx.us+1

They cannot be used for personal expenses (e.g. vacations, household bills, personal investments). All disbursements must be campaign-related (advertising, staffing, outreach, etc.). ethics.state.tx.us+2ethics.state.tx.us+2

The campaign must return or refund the excess to the donor. Accepting an over-limit donation without correction could lead to penalties. ethics.state.tx.us+1
